CAMBRIDGE AGENDA

It's very easy, once you're sucked into the heady world of huge publishing houses, television studios and revolting BBC coffee to forget where it all started. I try never to do this, and often think of my first days as a writer, for Cambridge Agenda magazine - a local glossy for the dear inhabitants of this windy, flat city. I am forever grateful to the then editor, Charlotte Sankey, for taking pity on the lactating, badly dressed, desperately frustrated girl who came to see her one wet afternoon (with a baby in tow as I recall...) asking if she could maybe write a few words for the magazine. Her 'yes' started the columns below, which eventually became the starting point for my first best-selling book. It was the lucky break I needed, and I am so glad to have had that chance.
